Behaviour for Learning

Day-to-day discipline of students is delegated to the principal and the teaching staff. Corporal Punishment is NOT practised at The University School. The Principal, however, has the power to suspend any student for gross misconduct for up to five (5) days.

Gross misconduct which is liable to lead to the suspension or withdrawal includes, inter alia the following behaviours whilst in the compound of The University School or elsewhere under the control of a member or members of staff of The University School or while wearing the official uniform of the school.

  • Fighting
  • Stealing
  • Cursing
  • Destruction of Property
  • Disrespect to a member of staff of The University School or to any adult whom The University School has placed in control of a student or students of the school.
  • Carrying or using offensive weapons
  • Carrying or using drugs such as nicotine, alcohol, cocaine or marijuana

Suspension or withdrawal could be the result of either financial delinquency on the part of the relevant parent or guardian, or as a result or gross misconduct.
